Art as Philosophy? The Reception of German Idealism and Early Romanticism by artists, from the 19th century to the present day
Alors que la réception philosophique de l’idéalisme et du premier romantisme allemands a fait l’objet d’un certain nombre d’études, la recherche s’est encore peu emparée de leur connaissance et de leurs usages chez les artistes. L’ambition du colloque est d’ouvrir un espace de dialogue interdisciplinaire, nourri par des études de cas, sur le rôle joué par la découverte de la philosophie allemande classique dans les arts visuels européens et américains, du début du XIXe siècle jusqu’à nos jours.
Während die philosophische Rezeption des Deutschen Idealismus und der Frühromantik bereits Gegenstand einer Reihe Untersuchungen gewesen ist, hat sich die Forschung bisher nur wenig mit der Frage ihrer Kenntnis und ihrer Verwendung durch Künstler befasst. Die Konferenz soll einen interdisziplinären Dialog über die Rolle der Entdeckung der Klassischen Deutschen Philosophie in der europäischen und amerikanischen bildenden Kunst vom Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts bis heute ermöglichen.
While the philosophical reception of German Idealism and Early Romanticism has been the subject of a number of studies, research so far has given little attention to the question of its knowledge and use by artists. The aim of the conference is to open up a space for interdisciplinary dialogue, informed by case studies, on the role that the discovery of Classical German Philosophy has played in European and American visual arts, from the early nineteenth century to the present day.
